Doha, August 05 (QNA) - The task force responsible for encouraging the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in Qatar has convened a coordination meeting with automotive dealers and distributors to discuss strategies for promoting the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in the nation.

The move intends to promote the use of this kind of car and encourage leveraging cutting-edge technologies that support environmental protection.

In a statement, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) affirmed that the meeting discussed a range of challenges facing the process of marketing and adopting these kinds of vehicles in the local market, foremost of which are users' concerns about long-distance travel using them, as well as the degree of efficiency of the charging station infrastructure in meeting demand.

The meeting further tackled the significance of promoting the utility of these vehicles, especially on highways, along with a mechanism for submitting official requests to install electric chargers at the targeted sites via a KAHRAMAA-approved platform, in addition to cooperation frameworks among the relevant authorities to streamline these procedures.

In addition, the meeting convened with members of the task force from the competent ministries and KAHRAMAA, alongside a variety of MoCI officials who deliberated on avenues for cooperation and coordination among the relevant entities to further the use of sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transport, in addition to supporting the transition to clean energy in alignment with national development goals, the statement said.

The attendees addressed the current sales indicators for electric and hybrid vehicles in Qatar and benchmarked them against selected regional markets.

The convention featured a presentation on the latest developments regarding the cooperation agreement between KAHRAMAA and Qatar Fuel Company (WOQOD). The agreement, in question, seeks to expand the provision of electric vehicle charging stations across WOQOD fuel stations nationwide.

This initiative is devoted to enhancing ease of use and encouraging the transition toward sustainable modes of transport.

Furthermore, the meeting underscored the importance of significantly having redundant electric chargers at the parking lots of shopping malls and public facilities, in addition to establishing a comprehensive database for these sites and providing them to users via interactive applications and encouraging consumers to use this kind of vehicle.

Overall, the attendees highlighted the significance of persistent coordination among all relevant entities and intensifying awareness campaigns on the merits of these types of vehicles so as to support the transition of the motor sector in Qatar toward enduring and smart options. (QNA)
