Geneva, July 09 (QNA) - HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed participated in the High-Level Dialogue of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The event brought together ministers of trade and economy, representatives of relevant international organizations, and experts from around the world.
In his address during the session, His Excellency emphasized that the WIPO High-Level Dialogue serves as an important platform for exchanging perspectives on developing the innovation environment amid the rapid global changes. He stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation to formulate policies that contribute to building a global economy based on knowledge and innovation.
His Excellency explained that the State of Qatar places innovation at the heart of its development strategies, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030), which aims to establish Qatar as a global hub for innovation and investment and a competitive destination for sustainable growth.
His Excellency highlighted the country’s efforts to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and improve the business environment, noting the ministry’s launch of its ambitious strategy in January 2025 to achieve effective integration with national development priorities, focusing on boosting productivity, enhancing the competitiveness of priority sectors, and enabling public-private partnerships.
His Excellency also reviewed a number of key initiatives launched by the State to support the innovation ecosystem and attract investments, including the establishment of world-class innovation centers such as Qatar Science and Technology Park. He pointed to a range of investment incentives provided by the State to support strategic sectors.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade underscored the need to strengthen cooperation with international partners to develop an effective intellectual property system, referring to the advanced strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and WIPO, which has resulted in several notable achievements, such as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2023 to empower small and medium-sized enterprises to integrate intellectual property rights into their business strategies.
His Excellency also noted Qatar’s accession in May 2024 to the Madrid Protocol for the registration of trademarks, which entered into force on August 3, 2024. This has contributed to simplifying procedures for international investors and enhancing the investment environment in the country.
His Excellency concluded his remarks by stating that protecting intellectual property rights has become one of the most critical enablers of innovation and economic development, affirming that the State of Qatar continues its efforts to establish a comprehensive system for the protection of these rights.
On the sidelines of the dialogue, HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed met with HE Director General of WIPO Daren Tang.
During the meeting, they discussed topics of mutual interest, including Qatar’s hosting of a high-level conference in cooperation with WIPO title "The Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR, Intellectual Property IP, Technology, and Sustainability in Attracting Foreign Direct Investment FDI and Supporting the Transformation into a Knowledge-Based Economy, Qatar National Vision 2030 and Beyond."
The two sides also discussed His Excellency’s participation in the Ministerial Strategic Dialogue on Intellectual Property Policies, and the nature of engagement in this dialogue. (QNA)
