Global Carbon Council, Misiones Province in Argentina Sing MOU

Brazilia, November 15 (QNA) - The Global Carbon Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Saturday with the State Secretariat for Climate Change of Misiones Province, Argentina, on the sidelines of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) currently underway in Belem, Brazil.
The MOU was signed by Chairman of the Global Carbon Council, Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al Horr and Secretary of the State Secretariat for Climate Change of Misiones Province, Gervasio Malagreda.
The Global Carbon Council is the first internationally accredited carbon markets program in the Global South under the ICAO's CORSIA mechanism.
The MOU aims to establish a framework for cooperation in developing and implementing carbon markets initiatives in Misiones Province. Key areas of cooperation include organizing workshops and training programs to build capacity on the council's standards, project registration and accreditation procedures, and methodological development, as well as supporting the integration of the council's standards and methodologies into the local carbon market in Misiones Province.
The memorandum also includes the provision of technical advice by the Global Carbon Council, affiliated with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), to complement the province's carbon policy framework, in line with Article 6, Paragraph 2 of the Paris Climate Agreement, as well as the implementation of any other activities agreed upon by both parties to support climate action and strengthen the infrastructure for carbon markets.
Dr. Yousef Al Horr said: "This memorandum represents an important step towards promoting highly transparent carbon markets in the Global South. Through our partnership with Missions, the Global Carbon Council seeks to provide technical expertise, global best practices, and innovative methodologies to support sustainable development and climate action at the local level. Together, we will work to strengthen the infrastructure for carbon markets, empower local stakeholders, and demonstrate the best way to achieve transparent and scalable carbon solutions that deliver tangible environmental, economic, and social benefits."
For his part, Gervasio Malagrida said: "This partnership with the Global Carbon Council provides a unique opportunity for the province of Misiones to align its carbon policies and market initiatives with international standards. The technical guidance, capacity-building programs, and digital tools offered by the Council will enable us to implement high-quality carbon projects, strengthen our institutional capacity, and attract climate finance. We are confident that this collaboration will accelerate our climate action agenda, support sustainable solutions in the energy and land-use sectors, and make Misiones a leading example in carbon market innovation within Argentina and the region."
This partnership underscores the commitment of both parties to building a robust carbon market infrastructure, supporting sustainable development, and strengthening regional and international cooperation within the framework of the Paris Agreement. By leveraging the Global Carbon Council's expertise and methodologies, the province of Misiones aims to enhance its climate action, increase its capacity to participate in carbon markets, and align its local initiatives with global standards.
