MOI Promotes UAE’s Leadership in Combating Environmental Crime and Empowering Youth at CCPCJ Meetings
The Ministry of Interior took part in several high-level events on the sidelines of the 34th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), held in Vienna, Austria. The Ministry participated in two key side events that underscored the UAE's steadfast commitment to addressing environmental crimes and fostering youth engagement in policy-making. This engagement aligns with the broader preparations for hosting the 15th session of the United Nations Crime Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2026.
Representing the UAE, the Ministry highlighted the critical role of law enforcement in tackling environmental crimes during the event titled Strengthening Judicial Responses to Environmental Crime to Support Climate Action. Through the International Law Enforcement Initiative for Climate (I2LEC), the Ministry emphasized the importance of international collaboration, modernizing legal frameworks, and leveraging advanced technologies to enhance global responses to transnational environmental threats. This effort builds upon the momentum of the Abu Dhabi Call to Action and Baku Call to Action, initiatives launched by the UAE in partnership with international stakeholders during COP28 and COP29. These initiatives reaffirm the integral role of law enforcement in supporting global climate action through the prevention and prosecution of environmental crimes.
In another side event titled Strengthening Youth Voices in Decision-Making Processes to Build Just and Safe Societies, the Ministry’s delegation presented the UAE’s progressive vision in empowering youth as active partners in shaping judicial and institutional policies. The delegation reiterated that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow but essential contributors to today’s decision-making processes. It also highlighted how the upcoming 2026 Abu Dhabi Crime Congress will serve as a global platform to amplify youth participation and advance efforts toward building safer, more inclusive, and sustainable societies.
