Saudi Arabia Makes Global Breakthrough: Drones and Helicopters Deployed for Medical Supply During Hajj

2 weeks ago 9

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services during the Hajj season, Saudi Arabia has introduced groundbreaking innovations in medical logistics for Hajj 1446H. The Kingdom announced the deployment of drones and helicopters to deliver urgent medical supplies, a move considered the first of its kind globally in managing healthcare for large-scale crowds.

This initiative supports the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage supported by smart and advanced healthcare systems.

The Minister of Health, H.E. Fahad Abdulrahman AlJalajel, confirmed the activation of drone and helicopter logistics in collaboration with NUPCO (National Unified Procurement Company for Medical Supplies), marking a pioneering step in global health innovation for mass gatherings.

Drones are being used for the first time in Hajj to rapidly transport critical medical supplies — including medications and essential equipment — from NUPCO distribution centers to healthcare facilities in the most crowded areas. This has cut average delivery times from one hour to just five minutes, targeting six key medical sites, including three in Arafat and three in Mina.

In parallel, a helicopter-based supply system has been launched to serve hospitals equipped with helipads in high-density zones, allowing urgent medical supplies to bypass ground traffic and reach facilities faster.

Through these efforts, Saudi Arabia is setting new global standards for medical supply systems in crowded environments, reaffirming its commitment to using technology and innovation to protect human health and provide an exceptional healthcare experience for the Guests of Allah.
